A NEW smartphone App will enable visitors and residents to see what events are on in York in the palm of their hands while they're out and about. Easily downloadable to any iPhone, ‘What’s On York’ has been developed by Make It York, to promote events and festivals and make it easier for people to make the most of all that the city and region has to offer.

The app allows users to browse the latest events and festival and get directions through an interactive mapping feature, and also rate and share them by social media channels.

It was created by Control F1, a Huddersfield-based digital company, who won the competition at APPtitude run by Venturefest at a one-day event at York Racecourse last year with Yorkshire's science, technology and innovation entrepreneurs.

Poppy Williamson, Digital Marketing Manager at Make It York said, ‘One of the most trusted ways of getting recommendations is through word of mouth.

This new app means you can now access those recommendations from your top pocket. Over the last year, we’ve seen a 153% increase in visitors accessing information from their smartphones and this is a 21st century new way to find out what’s on in the city and its surroundings.’

Make It York has also introduced a new ‘7 Days In York’ newsletter, a free digital guide to what’s on in the city over 7 days and available to download or sign up to at www.visityork.org/7DaysinYork
